How I use social proof on my landing page to increase conversion

4 practical tips to get social proof even if you don't have any friends

You’ve built an amazing product and you are ready for people to buy it, but no one is buying because your potential users don’t trust you enough.

Why should they trust a person they learned about on the internet? How would they know what you are selling really works?

Asking 20 of your friends for testimonials isn’t the only way to build social proof. And what if you don’t have 20 people who can help you? I am introverted and I only have 2 friends, so I have to be creative with this.

Here are 4 ways I generated social proof for my landing page and got my first paid user.

#1 Reddit comments are my testimonials

Reddit is a great place to share what you’ve built. I shared my SaaS boilerplate on Reddit.

I included the number of upvotes and the positive comments from the kind people on Reddit to show visitors that other people like what I have built.

This way, I’ve gathered the testimonials I needed without asking 20 friends/strangers to try my product.

#2 Take advantage of Authority Bias

I posted about my boilerplate on prominent websites like Hacker News, Medium, Indie Hackers.

I can then create a section on my landing page, “as shared on”, and put the logo of these websites underneath it.

#3 Your Github repo is a great indication of how many people like your product

I happen to have a free version of my Boilerplate on my Github repo. From the Reddit posts I made, I was able to gather about 90 stars on my repo.

This gives other people the confidence that my project is well liked.

And I made sure people visiting my landing notice this

#4 Demonstrate what your product can do

Ever seen land scaping videos on Instagram? Satisfying as it is to watch, they are showing the outcome of what they can do.

Capitalising on this, I made sure to include a video demonstrating what users get right out of the box right in the hero section of my landing page.

That’s it!
